As a representative park for the southwestern part of Seoul, Boramae Park is loved by citizens of Dongjak-gu, Gwanak-gu and Yeongdeungpo-gu. It used to be the site of Korea Air Force Academy of the ROK Air Force. Its name derives from the academy’s coat of arms, which features a young hawk (“boramae”). Boramae Park offers a number of facilities including the Main Lawn, a music fountain, and a pet playground.
The park’s pet playground is one of the main reasons this park is frequented by citizens to walk their dogs. Only dogs that have animal registration numbers issued or microchips inserted by a vet are allowed in to this facility. The pet playground is divided into two sections, one for small and medium-sized breeds and another for large breeds. Currently, up to 30 dogs are allowed in each section due to COVID-19. Despite the capacity limit, the pet playground is loved by many citizens because it is one of few areas in Seoul where dogs can enjoy running around to their hearts’ content.
Other attractions of the park include the Main Lawn and Air Park. The Main Lawn consists of a 600-m track over a wide area of 23,384-square-meters. It is popular as a picnic area for families and a date course for couples. In addition, Air Park features eight aircrafts on display, which attracts especially young children curious about aviation.
