SEOUL, SOUTH KOREA, July 5, 2021 – The Seoul Metropolitan Government (SMG) plans to host a global startup festival titled, Try Everything for three days from September 15 (Wed) to 17 (Fri). World’s up-and-coming startup players, including startup companies, investors, and accelerators (ACC), will gather together at this event.
Despite the pandemic, Try Everything 2020 was held successfully last year, with 237 experts in the global startup ecosystem and 45 investing companies from around ten countries—such as the US, Canada, and France—around the globe. Prominent guests of the festival are Alphabet Chairman John Hennessey, former Secretary-General of the UN Ban Ki-moon, co-founder of Alibaba Group Jack Ma, and co-founder of Netflix Marc Randolph.
The scale of this year’s event will be larger than that of the previous year as global conglomerates, investing institutions, unicorn companies, and media groups will take part. Also, organizations to
help startups’ overseas expansion to target countries such as Spain, Vietnam, and China will cooperate.
The SMG introduced a customized “Meet-up” process for venture capitalists (VC) and Startups. The new method is expected to increase chances for excellent startups and various VC to interact. The application for the Meet-up has been open since June 6. Any startups with exceptional cases can apply, and those in six significant sectors–ICT manufacturing, ICT service, general manufacturing, bio-healthcare, culture content, and distribution–are prioritized.
Selected startups will be granted opportunities to collaborate and build networks with VC and ACC. In addition, outstanding companies will get an invitation to in-depth Meet-ups and IR with VC during the festival.
Kim Eui-Seung, Deputy Mayor for Economic Policy, showed his ambition by saying that “the SMG will make Try Everything as a “global gateway” for startups where they can build diverse cooperation networks even amid the pandemic. And we will discover startups with huge potential to support their overseas expansion.”
