The Seoul Metropolitan Government (SMG) and the Seoul Tourism Organization (STO) are holding Seoul International Travel Mart (SITM) 2021 for nine days from Tue, Oct. 6 to Fri, Nov. 5 to restore the domestic and international tourism industry networks and occupy the tourism market in the “With Corona” era.
SITM began in 2015 and is celebrating its 7th year this year. The SMG invites more than 100 international buyers every year to help domestic tourism SMEs discover new international sales channels that would be difficult to find on their own.
This year, in particular, is going to be integrated with Seoul International Travel Mart For Medical Tourism (SITMMT) to actively promote the emerging new normal tourism trends, such as beauty, medical and wellness, which will lead the future of Seoul tourism. Various types of companies, including medical and wellness businesses and tourism startups, as well as tourism and MICE fields will be participating, which will offer a wide range of business and tourism industry promotion opportunities.
It fully supports the development of international sales channels and connection between industries through one on one online meetings between domestic travel, hospitality and airline companies with international buyers from 40 different countries. Domestic tourism industries that are having a difficult time due to COVID-19 will have an opportunity to voice their concerns.
They are also exploring possibilities of holding Seoul tourism briefing sessions to introduce the latest Seoul tourism content, and a shopping conference with experts to strengthen the medical and wellness tourism industry. It is worth noting that there will be a makeup show of a popular beauty creator, RISABAE, and a hanbok fashion show by designer Danha Kim, who introduced hanbok to international fans of Korean culture with her BLACKPINK music video outfits.
The online one-on-one business conference—the main program of SITM—will be held 24 hours a day on the Virtual Seoul platform from Wed, Oct. 27 to Fri, Nov. 5, and all other programs including the opening ceremony will be held offline at Sebitseom Island on Tue, Oct. 26.
A total of 3,301 business meetings between buyers and sellers were carried out despite the fact that both SITM and SITMMT were held remotely last year due to the COVID-19. About 87.4% international buyers and 81% of domestic sellers were satisfied according to the participant satisfaction survey, and it received positive reviews from the industry for facilitating an online business networking opportunity even in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.
